THE TIE DYE STORY
The summer of 2018 is tied up... in rubber bands.
In trying to put our finger on how tie dye became the ethos of the summer collection, we point to a few suspects. Is it that tie dye manages to make a poignant appearance in times of trouble? Have you seen the news today? Though, perhaps it was bound to come out at some point with Anthony's rebellious streak vying to express itself. Then again, a homespun art made popular by rebels and refined by couturiers is right at home at a place like Anthony Luciano where we put camouflage and leopard print into our "basics" category.
Whatever the cultural and personal motivations were, the art produced for this season is fun, zesty and easy in that luxurious bad ass kind of way.
We started with a waxed Italian linen which is used on many of our summer bags. Keeping with tradition, the tie dye is custom made in-house further making each bag truly one of a kind. We experimented with different knots and wraps using a vivid summer pallet of dyes: Lemon, Hibiscus, Denim, Mandarin, Avocado, and Grape. The linen is waxed on one side which creates a perfect finish for these unlined bags. With no extra layer of lining these bags are super soft and light, making them super flat and packable which is what you really want in summer from a bag.
The collection comes in six different tote shapes from weekender size to a vertical tote shape complete with an interior pocket for a bottle of rosé. All bags are trimmed in matching leather with hand stitch details. Complimenting the totes are simple, chic linen zip pouches that can be tossed into the totes or used on their own.
This season we made trios for that perfect "put together" bag package to include a card case, a zip pouch and a tote. It's like a Russian doll of bags that call all be used separately but work even better together.
